DAY 3 Wildbiome Project Hawaii

Day 3 @wildbiomeproject : I started today with some slices of last nights venison. Then on to kiawe tea poached loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) with coconut cream and beach almonds (Terminalia catappa) on top. I’ll continue to cite scientific names of plants/animals/fungi if I haven’t eaten them yet during the project, but will otherwise now drop repeating them. Just know that all is documented if you look through past posts – for those curious!

Had a huge unexpected score today. Driving by my house someone was cutting down a coconut palm and I stopped my truck in the middle of the road to run out and ask if I could have the delicate inner core near the top – a treasure and providing many pounds of food. A Filipino neighbor down the street had gotten first dibs, but they gave me a very generous portion and I was literally high for the rest of the day on this major blessing from Akua. And coconut was the theme, with a friend who’s partner climbs cocos for a living saying they had just gotten me loads of shakers (brown cocos good for making milk from) from some feral cocos deep in the jungle.

Started out my day with some of the leftover venison from night before, and kiawe bean tea. Late lunch of taape & coconut heart of palm sautéed in coconut oil + salt ….yummmm! I also sauteed venison with opiuma arils in coconut oil + salt, and had cups of red clover (Trifolium pratense) + wild fennel seed (Foeniculum vulgare) tea. I got a ferment started today with false awa inflorescences/flowers + honey…hoping for a fizzy drink.
